Being a CNA at the Tuff Memorial Home
A selfless, caring, outgoing person known as Autumn Olson works at a nursing home in a small town called Hills, Minnesota. This place is called the Tuff Memorial Home where around 45 residents live and Autumn helps to take care of.
Autumn is a CNA, which stands for certified nurses assistant, at the Tuff home. Autumn has worked there at the home for a solid year and a half and for the most part has enjoyed all of it. Along with the joys comes discomforts and Autumn has experienced both of these during the time she has worked at the home. Autumn really enjoys the relationships she builds with the residents and the people she works with. She enjoys brightening their days too. Autumn thinks this job is not only rewarding for the residents but for her also, she learns new things from the residents everyday and they too learn things from her. Along with the fun things that come with being a CNA at the Tuff home Autumn experiences some not so fun things at the nursing home. When residents get sick it can be a challenge to help them get well and while doing that Autumn knows she’s helping them and takes that as a reward for her hard work. At a young age Autumn knew she wanted to be involved with helping people. What made her want to be a CNA was her passion to help. Autumn knows she wants to be a nurse when she’s older and thought being a CNA would be a good opportunity for her to learn new things and see what she might be dealing with in the future. She also encourages anyone planning on going into the medical field to be a CNA and get a feel for what it’s like and what they are getting themselves into. |
In Hills, MN a small town girl known as Whitney Elbers attends Hills-Beaver Creek high school and wouldn’t trade the corn and cows around here for anything. She is a part of a larger youth organization know as 4-H. 4-H is a worldwide organization, it is the largest youth development organization in the world. There are nearly 6 million kids in 4-H learning science, health, agriculture and leadership skills.
Whitney has been involved in 4-H for a total of five years and it all started with her cousins. Whitney’s cousins were in 4-H before her and inspired her to be a part of this awesome organization and have stuck by her along this journey. Showing cattle is by far Whitney’s most favorite thing to show in 4-H for she has shown them for three years. Previous years Whitney has shown sheep for a year and goats another year. She shows many types of different cows but in previous years she has shown two prospects and one market steer. Whitney’s two siblings also show in 4-H, her brother shows beef and her little sister does horse. Going to state fair is always a goal for every young 4-H contestant and working hard is the way to earn your ticket there. Rightfully so, Whitney fought her way to the state fair three times in a row with hard work and perseverance. Whitney’s favorite thing about going to state fair is definitely the food. Not everything goes your way, but never giving up is always the key to success. Along with this Whitney shared with me that she has learned to just be herself, she has gone to numerous 4-H camps that taught her leadership and to be who you are. There is absolutely nothing about 4-H that Whitney does not enjoy, she says she likes it all. Not everything goes as planned and sometimes you blank when a judge asks you a question and Whitney shared with me a funny moment resulting in laughter and embarrassment. Once while she was showing a judge had asked her a very simple question she says and she got very nervous and blanked on the answer, the judge then asked the audience the same question and they giggled, and answered the question proudly. Whitney had known the answer, but she also shared with me the nerves never really go away you just have to remember your job and try your best. Wise words from a wise young girl. |
